On Sunday, May 7th, I had the honor of attending the 62nd Annual Award Ceremony of the German Language and School Society. Two of our Greenfield High School students were awarded certificates, cash prizes and complimentary tickets to German Fest for their high achievement on the National German Exam. One student was awarded awarded certificate, cash prize and complimentary ticket to German Fest for her essay she submitted to the DSSV German Essay contest.  The following students were awarded:

  • Laila Sabha $25. Laila’s German essay ranked #13 among the top 30 essays in the state.  The theme this year was “Ein Held in meinem Leben” (A Hero in my Life). Students had 30 minutes to write a 5 paragraph essay in German in class without the use of dictionaries or outside help. This year 465 essays from 20 high schools throughout the state were submitted.
  • Sara Taylor $75.
  • Sophia Davis $125. Sophia was one of 8 finalists in Wisconsin for the grand prize study trip to Germany. Only one trip is awarded in the state. Although she did not receive this award, she did receive high compliments from the interviewers.
