On Monday, December 2, 2019, Greenfield High School German students from levels 4 and 5 went on a field trip to Chicago. They began their day with a visit to the Goethe Institut, a German language and culture center, where they participated in an interactive program in the German language celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Students also had the opportunity to try a Virtual Reality interactive experience on Bauhaus architecture. Then they went to the Christkindlmarket on Daley Plaza, which is modeled after the famous market in Nuremberg, Germany. During their visit, they tried German foods, explored the market, and heard many people speaking German. Most of the vendors and products were from German speaking countries. Students could purchase gifts and souvenirs including gingerbread, chocolates, roasted almonds, toys, ornaments, and a keepsake 2019 Chicago Christkindlmarket mug.
