Despite a number of “First meet of the year” issues, the “SugarHawks” of the Greenfield/Pius co-op, crushed the squad from New Berlin Eisenhower last night by a score of 109-69.
“Although the pool issues were a major distraction all evening, the girls did surprisingly very well in the pool for the first dual meet of the season”,commented head coach Dale Schrank.
“We had no fewer than 12 girls competing in their first swim meet competition ever, and most of them did incredibly well.”
The meet started on on a very positive note as the 200 yard medley captured top honors with a time that just missed the school record by only 1.1 seconds. Sophia Davis, Gabby LePine, Elizabeth Misorski, and Madison Misko pooled their talents to win that event. Misko also captured top honors in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. Teammates Gabby LePine, Elizabeth Misorski and Gabby Goodbear rounded out the individual first place wins by finishing first in the 100 yard breaststroke, 100 yard butterfly, and 500 yard freestyle events respectively . The “SugarHawks” also swept all three relay events. “Swimmer of the Meet” last night was freshman Jada Towns with some very strong swims in both her freestyle and backstroke events.
“If we can keep ourselves healthy and focused over the next week, I think we will be a major force to be reckoned with at the Woodland Conference Relay Championships that we will be hosting next Wednesday.” Schrank said.
Diving action starts at 4:00 and the swim competition begins at 6:30.
