The opening 2 meets for the Greenfield/Pius girls swim team proved to be quite the test, going against last years’ Woodland Conference champions on Wednesday, (Greendale), and one of the top 3 teams in division one on Saturday (Muskego). The local favorites rose to the occasion, however, winning 4 of 11 events on Wednesday, and also winning 4 of 13 events on Saturday. Head coach Dale Schrank was very pleased with how his ream is starting the season. “With all of the confusion with new guidelines for training, and all of the new guidelines for running meets, our swimmers have managed to still focus very well on their training, and the results of that training paid off extremely well on the first week of competition. Even with being broken down from practice, we walked away with a number of lifetime best times, and a number of swimmers making really significant improvement from the start of their season.” commented Schrank.
Gabrielle LePine won both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke in both meets, and teammates Anna Miler, Kira Goodbear, and Jada Towns, all won individual events as well. Maylen Wiencek, Anna Temke, Paige Seehawer, and Samantha Bartlet, all scored significantly in both meets as well. Anna Miler and Paige Seehawer were also voted as “swimmers of the meet” for their lifetime best efforts in both meets.
The next action will again be at the Greenfield Natatorium on Wednesday with the meet starting at 5:00 p.m. Spectators will be limited to 2 spectators per swimmer. Congratulations swimmers!!!
