Whitnall High School snapped a four year winning streak for the Greenfield/Pius girls swim team as they captured the Woodland Conference Junior Varsity Championships held at New Berlin Eisenhower. Whitnall won the event with 496.5 points, followed by the Greenfield/Pius co-op with 440.5. Greendale rounded out the top three in the 13 team Conference with 397 points.

The Junior varsity “SugarHawks” medaled in all three relay, and captured gold medals in the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle event. Bella Marshall won the 200 yard individual medley with a personal best time of 2:42.45, eclipsing her previous mark by over 11 seconds, and teammate Megan Herlache won the 500 yard freestyle with her personal best time of 6:29.31. Other medal winners for the “SugarHawks” included captain Kasey Fenski, finishing 2nd in the 500 free, and breaststrokers Camille Gueller and Bridget Browne finishing 2nd and third respectively in that event. Indy Jiardini and Alyssa Kotke were also a part of medal winning relays for the “SugarHawks”.

Head coach Dale Schrank was very pleased with the results of the meet. ” It would have been nice to keep the streak alive, but I certainly have no complaints with the effort levels or a 2nd place finish in a 13 team event.” ” The 2019 season looks very promising with this group of up and coming swimmers.” commented Schrank. The “Swimmer of the meet” was Brittany Munoz for swimming a personal best time in the 100 yard butterfly of over 12 seconds, and finishing in the top 8 as a result.
