The Hustlin’ Hawks Wrestling team competed at the Woodland Conference tournament at Cudahy High School on Saturday, 2/2/19. The Hawks would earn a ninth-place finish at the meet and all six wrestlers competing for the Hawks would go on to place at the tournament. The Hawks had three wrestlers earn their way into the third place match and another three earn their way into the fifth place match.
The high place-winner for the Hawks was Skyler Gill-Howard, at 285 lbs, where he would earn a 3rd place finish. Gill-Howard battled back to third place match after suffering a loss in round one. He would go on to win his next three matches, including a pin over Isaiah Hahm from WIsconsin Lutheran, who is currently listed as honorable mention in the latest state rankings in Division 2.
Matthew FIscher had a nice day for the Hawks, finishing 4th at the conference meet at 182 lbs. Along the way, Fischer would earn two pins, one of which avenged a loss from two weeks ago in a dual meet. This victory over Noah Nieberle, from New Berlin, would earn FIscher a trip to the medal round, third place match.
Other place-winners for the Hawks were Jayce Craig who took 4th at 220 lbs, Noah Schilz with a 5th at 132 lbs, Dylan Schloemer was 6th at 138 lbs, and Marcellus Satterfield with a 5th at 145 lbs.
Up Next: The Hawks will travel to West Allis Central this Saturday (2/9/19) to compete at the WIAA Regional tournament. The top four finishers at each weight class will advance to the WIAA Sectional tournament the following week at Racine Horlick High School. Wrestling is scheduled to start at Central at 9:30 AM.
JV will travel to New Berlin West High School on Wednesday (2/6/19) to compete in the JV Conference tournament. Weigh ins are scheduled for 4:00pm and wrestling is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM.
