Greenfield Boys Wrestling battled through a loaded WIAA Sectional on Saturday, February 14, with three Hawks placing and one punching his ticket to Madison.
?? Gavin St. John – 175 lbs – State Qualifier
Senior Gavin St. John led the way for the Hawks, finishing 2nd at 175 pounds to earn a trip to the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament.
St. John opened his day with a bye before earning a 14-1 major decision over Isaiah Kooiman in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he secured a hard-fought victory over Laith Shalabi to guarantee himself a top-two finish and a state berth.
In the championship match, St. John fell to Seth Krause, but his runner-up finish solidified his place among Wisconsin's best. He heads to Madison with an impressive 38-11 record and momentum on his side.
Greenfield is proud to have Gavin represent the Hawks on the state stage.
?? Strong Sectional Performances
While St. John advances, two other Hawks battled deep into the bracket and earned fourth-place finishes against elite competition.
Julean Rouleau – 113 lbs (4th Place)
Rouleau earned a quarterfinal win before dropping a tight semifinal match. He responded with a dominant 50-second fall in the consolation semifinals to put himself in position for a state berth, ultimately finishing fourth after a tough third-place match.
Dylan Alba – 157 lbs (4th Place)
Alba opened with back-to-back pins to reach the semifinals. After a narrow 3-2 decision loss, he rebounded with another win in the consolation bracket before finishing fourth overall.
Both Rouleau and Alba demonstrated resilience and grit throughout the tournament, representing Greenfield with toughness and pride.
Hawk Pride
Sectionals is one of the most demanding tournaments of the year, featuring the top wrestlers in the region with a state berth on the line. The Hawks competed with heart, discipline, and determination throughout the day.
Now, all eyes turn to Madison as Gavin St. John prepares to compete on the biggest stage in Wisconsin high school wrestling.
