Greenfield senior Gavin St. John represented the Hawks at the WIAA Division 1 Individual State Wrestling Tournament in the 175-pound weight class, capping off an outstanding senior season with a trip to the Kohl Center.
St. John entered the state tournament with a strong 37–13 record and earned his place among Wisconsin's top wrestlers after finishing as a sectional qualifier. Competing at the state level is a testament to months of dedication, discipline, and hard work, and St. John proved he belonged among the best in Division 1.
Opening Round
In his opening match, St. John faced a difficult challenge against Jacob Kidder of Hartford Union, one of the top wrestlers in the bracket. Despite a determined effort, St. John fell by technical fall (16–1) in the championship round of 16.
Bouncing Back in Wrestlebacks
Showing resilience and toughness, St. John responded in the consolation bracket with a strong performance. He earned a pinfall victory over Henrik Kellogg of Brookfield Central, securing the win in 4:52 and keeping his tournament run alive.
Final Match
St. John continued battling in the consolation quarterfinals, where he faced Paiton Norrington of Brown Deer/Messmer/Shorewood. In a tightly contested match, St. John narrowly fell in tie-breakers, 11–10, bringing his state tournament run to a close.
