In a game packed with intensity, grit, and late-inning heroics, the Greenfield Varsity Hustlin' Hawks softball team secured a dramatic 7–6 victory over New Berlin West in eight innings on Tuesday night.
Greenfield battled back from early deficits and survived a pair of late-game rallies by New Berlin West to pull off the win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Pitcher M. Hornung was a force on the mound, going the full 8.0 innings while striking out 7 and allowing only 1 earned run out of 6 total, despite surrendering 10 hits and 3 walks over 120 pitches.
The offense was led by shortstop C. Gbur, who went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while catcher E. Brielmaier came through with a clutch performance, notching 2 hits and driving in 2 key runs. Lead off hitter N. Kleszczynski didn't record a hit but made her impact felt, drawing four walks, scoring three runs, and driving in four runs—including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth.
Greenfield trailed early, falling behind 2–1 after three innings, but clawed back with a two-run fourth and a single run in the sixth to take a 4–2 lead. New Berlin West responded with a two-run seventh to tie it at 4–4, pushing the game into extra innings. Both teams scored in the eighth, but Greenfield had the final word with a walk-off to secure the victory.
Despite committing six errors, the Hustlin' Hawks showed mental toughness and composure under pressure. Their bats came alive at just the right moments, with 10 total hits and 7 walks keeping the lineup moving.
With this win, Greenfield continues to build momentum early in the season and proves they have the depth and determination to battle through adversity.
