The Greenfield boys tennis team competed with resilience, determination, and composure at subsectionals, highlighted by two doubles teams earning spots at the upcoming Sectional Tournament.
In singles play, the Hawks faced a very talented Whitnall lineup across all four positions. At #1 singles, Caleb Laatsch battled throughout the match before falling 6-0, 6-0. Steven Rehak competed hard at #2 singles and challenged his opponent early before dropping the match 6-4, 6-0. Ali Khan continued to fight at #3 singles, finishing with a 6-1, 6-1 result, while Aleksandar Vidacak wrapped up play at #4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 match.
Greenfield found major success in doubles competition with several standout performances throughout the day.
At #1 doubles, Vincent Ortega and Christian Dams-Murillo earned an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over Greendale to punch their ticket to Sectionals. The duo played confidently from start to finish and represented Greenfield extremely well on the court.
Brayden Noe and Roger Lara delivered one of the most exciting matches of the tournament at #2 doubles. After narrowly losing a first-set tiebreak, the pair battled back to take the second set before ultimately falling in a dramatic third-set super tiebreak, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 9-11.
At #3 doubles, Trevor Schueller and Jack Kleszczynski secured a huge breakthrough victory, defeating Whitnall 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to Sectionals. Earlier this season, the duo had lost to the same team twice in three-set matches, making the win an exciting example of the growth and improvement they have shown throughout the season.
Overall, the Hawks competed with tremendous effort throughout the tournament, and Greenfield now looks forward to cheering on Vincent Ortega, Christian Dams-Murillo, Trevor Schueller, and Jack Kleszczynski as they continue their postseason run at Sectionals.
