The Greenfield girls soccer team made history Thursday afternoon, earning its first WIAA Regional playoff victory since 2016 with a thrilling 1-0 win over St. Augustine Prep at Greenfield High School.

The match was tightly contested from start to finish, with both teams creating opportunities and battling for possession throughout the game. The Hawks showcased their determination and resilience, refusing to let the game slip away as the clock wound down.

Greenfield received strong performances in the midfield from Kenzie Arakachi and Paiten Pope, who helped control play and create opportunities on both sides of the ball. The Hawks also welcomed back Aaliyah Gorenc, whose return after missing much of the season due to injury provided a noticeable boost to the team and added experience and energy to the lineup.

With overtime looming, Greenfield found its breakthrough. Senior Marija Kosanovic delivered the game-winning goal with just 1 minute and 23 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the home crowd into celebration and securing the Hawks' first regional playoff win in a decade.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the program and advances Greenfield to the WIAA Regional Championship match. The Hawks will travel to face Pewaukee on Saturday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. with a regional title on the line.
