The Greenfield Girls Soccer team showcased resilience and determination in their recent matchup against St. Thomas More, despite falling 0-2. After conceding two quick goals in the opening five minutes, the Hawks regrouped and held firm for the remainder of the contest, displaying impressive defensive organization and mental toughness.
Halftime adjustments paid dividends as the team collectively responded, turning the tide in their favor. Senior Jasmine Sanchez led the midfield with poise, orchestrating the pace of play and delivering the best performance of her Greenfield career. Freshman Gianna Herrera also made a statement, solidifying her role at center back with a commanding performance that added stability to the backline. Senior captain Jayda Benabe, named Player of the Match, was a defensive anchor once again, shutting down numerous counter attacks that could have altered the outcome.
While the Hawks managed 3 shots on target, it was the defensive efforts that stood out, including 5 crucial saves by goalkeeper Diane Daniels, with two coming in one-on-one situations.
The team looks to build on these positives as they prepare for their next challenge: a 6:30 PM showdown at Shorewood on Wednesday, April 30.
