The Hustlin' Hawks put together a gritty effort in their first home match of the season, but despite creating several dangerous opportunities, Greenfield came up short in a 4–1 loss to conference rival Whitnall.
Whitnall struck twice in the first half to jump out to a 2–0 advantage, but the Hawks responded just before halftime. Senior Patrick Morgese buried a set piece goal to cut the deficit in half and spark momentum heading into the break.
Fueled by the home crowd, Greenfield came out flying in the second half. Yandel Rosa's speed and physicality caused problems for the Whitnall back line, while Logan Xiong nearly equalized with a powerful header that forced a highlight-reel save from the Falcon keeper. The Hawks generated multiple chances on set pieces and corners, but couldn't find the finishing touch.
As Greenfield pushed numbers forward, Whitnall capitalized late to extend their lead and secure the 4–1 victory.
The Hawks will look to regroup quickly and bounce back on Wednesday, when they return to action at home against Kenosha Bradford. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
