The Greenfield boys soccer team put together a gritty performance on Tuesday night, earning a 1–1 draw against Waterford in a game that was tightly contested from start to finish.
From the opening whistle, both sides traded chances in an even first half. Goalkeeper Enrique Lopez came up with a critical save to keep the game level, and the post denied Waterford a goal just before the break. The score remained 0–0 at halftime.
In the 55th minute, Waterford managed to find the back of the net on a fortunate shot, putting the Hawks down 1–0. Greenfield responded with relentless pressure, firing more than a dozen shots at the Waterford keeper. Despite the push, a penalty kick in the 72nd minute sailed wide, keeping the Hawks behind.
The breakthrough came in the 79th minute, when Greenfield earned another penalty. Logan Xiong stepped up with confidence and buried it to even the score at 1–1.
Down the stretch, Pat Morgese, Owen Engelhardt, and Yandel Rosa each created scoring opportunities but couldn't quite convert. When the final whistle blew, both teams were left with a hard-earned point in the Woodland Conference standings.
The Hawks showed resilience and fight throughout the match, proving they'll be a tough team to put away this season.
