The Greenfield Varsity Baseball team delivered a commanding performance on Monday night, defeating St. Augustine Prep 11-1 in six innings. The win showcased both offensive firepower and strong pitching as the Hawks improved their late-season momentum.
After trailing 1-0 in the first inning, Greenfield quickly responded, scoring in every inning from the second through the sixth. A six-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth sealed the deal and ended the game early via run rule.
Offensively, the Hawks tallied nine hits and drew nine walks. Leading the way was Elijah Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Rex Giegerich added a big night at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, while Nate Wendricks contributed two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Greenfield pitching staff was lights out. Starter Alex Peacock earned the win, throwing four strong innings with six strikeouts while allowing just two hits and one earned run. Eli Francour came in to close, striking out three and surrendering only one hit in two innings of relief.
Additional highlights included:
-
Multiple stolen bases from Jayden Valdez (2), Eli Francour, Elijah Hunt, Mason Eade, and Rex Giegerich.
-
Hit-by-pitches helping the offense as Brady Zimmer, Jayden Valdez, and Samir Mohammad reached base by taking one for the team.
-
Clean and aggressive base running, which pressured St. Augustine and capitalized on defensive miscues.
Greenfield's overall team effort—solid at the plate, on the base paths, and on the mound—demonstrated the squad's depth and determination as the postseason approaches.
Next up for the Hawks: a continuation of their strong stretch run as they look to stay hot in their upcoming matchups.
