The Greenfield Varsity Baseball team opened their WIAA postseason with an impressive 8-2 victory over Racine Horlick on Wednesday, June 4. Fueled by timely hitting, aggressive base running, and a dominant performance on the mound, the Hawks punched their ticket to the next round of the playoffs.
Jayden Valdez led the offensive charge with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving in four runs. Nate Wendricks also contributed with two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Brady Zimmer added a pair of hits and an RBI of his own. The Hawks totaled 8 hits and capitalized on multiple hit-by-pitches to keep pressure on Horlick's defense.
On the mound, Ethan Miszewski was lights-out, throwing a complete game. He scattered seven hits across seven innings, allowing just two runs and striking out seven batters on 92 pitches. Miszewski's poise and control helped shut the door on any potential rally.
Greenfield scored in five of their six offensive innings, with a three-run burst in the sixth inning putting the game out of reach.
The Hawks will now prepare for their next regional matchup today, bringing momentum and confidence into the next stage of the postseason.
