The Greenfield varsity baseball team faced a challenging matchup on Wednesday, April 22, falling to Whitnall 11–1. Despite the final score, the Hawks continued to compete and showed flashes of growth throughout the contest.
Greenfield broke through in the third inning for its lone run, finishing with three hits on the day. Brody Jens and Ethan Miszewski each recorded hits, while Chase Wallich added another. Jens and Miszewski both collected doubles to lead the Hawks offensively.
At the plate, Greenfield showed discipline by drawing nine walks as a team. Jens led the way with two, while Miszewski, Mason Alms, JJ Francor, Ethan Hanke, Nolan Kranich, and Chase Eade each contributed, helping extend innings and create scoring chances.
Hanke also added a stolen base, continuing to apply pressure on the basepaths.
On the mound, Miszewski started for the Hawks, going four innings with three strikeouts. Alms came in for relief and added another strikeout. While Whitnall capitalized on key opportunities, Greenfield continued to battle throughout the game.
The Hawks will look to build on the positives and bounce back as they continue their conference schedule.
