The Greenfield Hawks are Regional Champions!
Greenfield continued its postseason run on Thursday with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Waukesha North in the WIAA Regional Final. Behind a dominant performance on the mound and timely hitting throughout the lineup, the Hawks secured the championship and punched their ticket to the next round of the state tournament.
Mason Grafwallner delivered one of his best performances of the season, throwing a complete-game two-hitter while striking out an impressive 12 batters. Grafwallner allowed just one run and two walks over seven innings, keeping the Northstars off balance all afternoon. He also helped his own cause at the plate, collecting three hits and scoring a run.
The Hawks broke through in the second inning and added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Greenfield finished with seven hits, led by Grafwallner's three-hit day. JJ Francour added two hits, while Brody Jens and Enrique Lopez each recorded a hit. Lopez and Nolan Kranich drove in Greenfield's runs, while Jens and Mason Alms each stole a base to help create scoring opportunities.
Defensively, the Hawks played a clean game, committing no errors and limiting Waukesha North to just two hits.
The regional championship marks another milestone in what has been a memorable season for Coach Zacher and the Hawks. Greenfield's resilience, pitching depth, and timely offense have fueled a strong postseason run and earned the team an opportunity to continue competing for a sectional title.
With the victory, Greenfield advances to the WIAA Sectional Semifinal and will face Marquette University High School on Tuesday, June 9, at 1:00 PM. The game will be played at Waukesha West High School, with a trip to the Sectional Championship on the line.
Congratulations to Coach Zacher and the Hawks on an outstanding regional championship performance. The Greenfield community looks forward to supporting the team as they continue their postseason journey.
