The Greenfield Hawks battled until the final out Wednesday night, falling to Shorewood 2-1 in a tightly contested conference matchup.

Greenfield's pitching staff turned in another strong performance on the mound, highlighted by an outstanding start from Mason Grafwallner. Grafwallner struck out 12 batters across 4.1 innings while allowing just four hits and no earned runs. JJ Francour came on in relief and helped keep the game within reach down the stretch.

The Hawks broke through in the third inning for their lone run of the game. Chase Wallich reached base and later came around to score, while Ethan Miszewski delivered the team's RBI.

Greenfield scattered three hits on the evening, with Devin Ueberfluss, Enrique Lopez, and Miszewski each collecting one hit. Ueberfluss and Miszewski both added doubles offensively.

Defensively, the Hawks battled throughout the night against a strong Shorewood lineup, while Wallich and Jaden Sanchez each recorded stolen bases to help apply pressure offensively.

Greenfield will look to bounce back in its next conference contest as the Hawks continue their busy stretch of Woodland Conference play.
