In a thrilling cross-town showdown, the Greenfield Varsity Hawks edged the Whitnall Falcons 4-3 on Tuesday night, thanks to a late-inning surge and a gutsy complete-game performance from pitcher Nate Wendricks.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the sixth, the Hawks erupted for three runs in the top of the frame and added another clutch run in the seventh to take the lead. Despite being out-hit 10-3, Greenfield made the most of their offensive opportunities, capitalizing on timely hits and smart base running.
Bradyn Seidler delivered the team's lone extra-base hit with a double, while Ethan Miszewski, Jayden Valdez, and Seidler each added key hits in the comeback. Eli Francour and Elijah Hunt each swiped a base, applying pressure on the Falcons' defense.
On the mound, Wendricks was rock-solid, tossing all seven innings while allowing 10 hits but just 3 earned runs. He struck out 4, walked none, and faced 29 batters on 85 pitches, showcasing his command and poise under pressure.
With the win, Greenfield continues to build momentum as postseason play nears, showing grit and resilience in a hard-fought victory over their rivals.
