On Tuesday, April 22, the Greenfield Varsity Hustlin' Hawks softball team put up a strong fight against Whitnall but ultimately came up short, falling 8-5 in a competitive matchup.
The Hawks showed resilience at the plate, racking up 9 hits across the lineup. Leading the offensive charge was Calla Gbur, who had a standout performance going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including two doubles and a total of five bases. Naomi Kleczynski and Erin Brielmaier each added doubles of their own, with Naomi Kleczynski scoring once and walking once. Maya Hornung and Sarah Mysliwy each contributed an RBI apiece, with Mysliwy also adding a stolen base to her stat line.
Greenfield jumped on the board early, scoring in the first two innings, but Whitnall's bats heated up in the middle frames, putting together a five-run stretch between the third and fifth innings. Despite Greenfield's late push, including a run in the seventh, the Hawks couldn't close the gap.
On the mound, Jasmine Lasky pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs (three earned), while striking out two. Maya Hornung came in for two innings of relief, giving up two hits and one run while adding two strikeouts.
The Hawks showed grit throughout the game but will look to tighten up defensively and capitalize on key opportunities as they continue their season.
Stay tuned as Greenfield Softball gears up for their next matchup, ready to bounce back and keep the momentum going!
