The Greenfield Hawks varsity baseball team went toe-to-toe with South Milwaukee on Tuesday, April 29, in a high-scoring affair that saw the Hawks fall 18-9 in extra innings.
Greenfield came out swinging, putting up four runs in the first inning and holding a 9-8 lead through four. Offensively, the Hawks racked up nine hits and showed strong plate discipline, drawing six walks. Eli Francour had a standout performance at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Mason Grafwallner also made a big impact, driving in two runs and launching a home run.
Other offensive contributors included Mason Alms with two hits and two RBIs, while Rex Giegerich and Jayden Valdez each added key hits to keep Greenfield in contention through the middle innings.
On the mound, Mason Grafwallner pitched four innings, striking out six and walking five. Ethan Hanke threw the final three innings, striking out two. The pitching staff battled through tough innings against a persistent South Milwaukee offense.
Despite the loss, Greenfield showed grit and flashes of offensive firepower. The team will look to clean up defensive miscues and capitalize on early momentum in upcoming matchups.
