On Friday, May 9, the Greenfield Varsity Baseball team took the field against a strong Brookfield Central squad in a high-energy matchup that featured plenty of action at the plate. Despite a late push, the Hawks came up short, falling 11-6 on the road.
Greenfield showed resilience throughout the game, especially in the middle innings. Trailing early after Brookfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead, the Hawks responded with a three-run rally in the fourth inning and continued to battle, scoring in the fifth and seventh to stay within reach.
Senior shortstop Jayden Valdez was a key spark offensively, scoring twice and reaching base multiple times, including a double and two stolen bases. Eli Francour also led the charge at the plate, tallying two hits, one RBI, and contributing with two total bases. Julian Francour added an RBI and a hit of his own, while Mason Grafwallner, Nate Wendricks, and Enrique Lopez each found ways to reach base and contribute to the team's scoring efforts.
On the mound, Ethan Hanke started the game, striking out three over four innings but was tagged with the loss. Elijah Hunt entered in relief and pitched two solid innings, allowing three runs while striking out one.
Greenfield totaled four hits, six runs, and five walks, but also struck out 11 times. Defensively, the team recorded two errors, but their hustle on the base paths, including six stolen bases, highlighted their aggressive style of play.
Although the result didn't go their way, the Hawks demonstrated grit and offensive potential against a quality opponent. They'll look to clean up defensive miscues and carry their aggressive approach into upcoming contests.
Final Score: Brookfield Central 11, Greenfield 6
